all work no fun not good

Who should read it: Anyone who wants to have fun with work :). Everyone.
Here are a set of games that can be play while at work. Earlier I mentioned about Google image labeler, thats fun and few of us are already addicted to it.

Here is another one, peek a boom, this is cool as well.

The Basics: Peeking and Booming
You and a random partner take turns “peeking” and “booming.” While one of you is peeking, the other is booming. The booming player (Boom) gets an image along with a word related to the image, and the peeking player (Peek) gets no image (see Figure below). Booming consists of clicking parts of the image; when Boom clicks a part of the image, it is revealed to Peek. The object of the game is for Peek to type the word associated to the image — from their perspective, the game consists of a slowly revealing image, which has to be named. From Boom’s perspective, the game consists of clicking on areas of the image so that Peek can guess the word associated to it. Once Peek guesses the correct word, the two of you move on to the next image and switch roles.

So have fun with work. Hey, be careful let not your boss ban those IPs from your office network :). These days people are crazy about orkut too.

Google Jobs
If you are a fan of Google like me, here is a chance to be in Google. If you are a web2.0 Shakespeare try http://services.google.com/events/wordmasters . I have recommended it to some of friends who are good at writing.

Why to Join Google?

  1. Since it has two “o” in its name. Also it has two “g” in its name. In short since it is Google.
  2. It allows you to work on your own interested area 20% of the time. I think this is very unique.
  3. Google play

And plenty of more reasons , find them all at http://www.google.com/jobs/reasons.html

Website launched for Professor’s justice

It is teacher’s day but many did not celebrate it showing a support for Late Professor Sabharwal. If you are not aware of the tragic incident about Professor sabharwal then please read on some recent newspapers. http://news.google.co.in/news?hl=en&tab=wn&ie=UTF-8&q=professor+sabharwal, this might help.

Today his son launched a new platform to get justice, as this is just not a case against one but against powerful parties. This news is not yet public but still you can get access to his site at http://www.professorsabharwal.com/. I think we should support him get justice for our own sake. We need to make one citizen powerful enough to get justice at all cost. I do not know whether political parties inside colleges are good or not but I certainly know that a lot of people misuse the powers. If you are given power then you are with additional responsibilities as well. Do all understand this? What are the criteria for becoming a student youth rep for any political party? Why take a path of violence? Hope we learn some lessons from these cases and correct our systems.

This is not the first time when the online media is used for petitions. We have seen it with Jessica lal case and Priyadarshini Mattoo too. I wish Himanshu Sabharwal all my prayers and also offer him my availability for any possible help. Let’s stand for our rights. There can be no better time.

Indra Nooyi at B-School Graduation

After posting an inspiring message from Steve Jobs, here is another one from my special collections.
IKN — Columbia Business School Graduation 5/15/05
Columbia Business School Graduation Remarks Indra Nooyi, then President and CFO (now chief executive officer and president), PepsiCo May 15, 2005

Indra Nooyi

Good evening, everyone. Dean Hubbard, distinguished faculty, honored graduates, relieved parents, family, and friends – it’s a distinct pleasure to be in New York City this evening to celebrate the biggest milestone to date in the lives of you — the young men and women before us: your graduation from Columbia University Business School.

It may surprise you, graduates, but as big a night as this is for you, it’s an even bigger night for your parents. They may look calm and collected as they sit in the audience, but, deep inside, they’re doing cartwheels, dancing the Macarena, and practically speaking in tongues, they’re so excited. This is what happens when parents anticipate that their bank accounts will soon re-hydrate after being bone dry for two years. So, for everyone here this evening, it’s a very special occasion. And I’m delighted to share it with you.

Steve Jobs at Stanford

I know its an old one but then I also heard that old is gold, this report certainly proves it right. I got this from Vasudha and I was wondering that how could I miss this one. If you missed it then here is it again.
Steve Jobs

You can download the speech as well in quick time or real or window media format

Stanford Report, June 14, 2005 ‘You’ve got to find what you love,’ Jobs says
This is the text of the Commencement address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, delivered on June 12, 2005.
I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots. Continue reading “Steve Jobs at Stanford”

BSNL is down – Cant recharge

For last 2 days my dad is trying to recharge his BSNL prepaid connection where he is continuously getting a message, “this service is currently not available, try after sometime”. After trying few times he assigned the job to me. I tried but the message did not improve for me either.

Today I came to know from some my colleagues that BSNL database is having some problem and is a major issue. Even I heard that they have lost the data but I have no authentic data to support it. From one of the programmers who once worked at BSNL I came to know that the validity will stay unhampered but recharge won’t be possible. According to him this is the sixth day. In this Indian market where telecom sector is a synonym for competition I wonder the possible losses for BSNL. Are you facing such problems too?

Pluto – I am no longer with Sun

pluto - no longer a planet within solar system

Pluto
Disney Family, Earth

My friend,

Perhaps you know by this time, that I am not a planet anymore Sad . Yes you are right, I am the object far away from the Sun, used to be known as the 9th planet of the solar family. I have lost my position yesterday, though I don’t know how a group of people got the right to decide my fate, anyways, I don’t want to break up a fire, I am writing to you just for venting.

I have never complained for all the injustice that I have been awarded so far, sunlight and heat rarely reach to my surface. My body is covered with ice. But I never argued. I have only one ‘moon’ where some other planets have as more as 17 and I never argued. But today I cannot keep quiet anymore. I have been demoted to a ‘dwarf planet’ state where I have to sit with Charon? What a humiliation? ……………………………………….

IT majors in Mega hiring mode

Thanks to Parikshat Sharma of MBA-5 for sharing this information.

IT majors are hiring

IT industry is growing bigger and bigger everyday, I hope we start developing our own brands too. On one side we are getting jobs but on other side we are just doing work for others. We need to support the innovation drive over the outsourcing. I am happy to be with a company where we keep doing new experiments.

NIMC forums got hacked

I was using invision, an old version, the version when it used to be free. I always wanted to shift to phpbb as it keeps the code updated for free. I think this is the time when I should shift to phpbb. I will certainly check the log files and find out the people behind these hackings.

I wonder what they get out of it. Bad day, I slept only for 3 hrs yesterday because of these idiots. I have a backup of 17th Aug 2006. I did not automate the whole backup system yet, so I should do that as well. I will try to bring it back asap.
